EVERPLAST STORY

What is Everplast's story?

Everplast is the story of a desire to turn a material that was thought to be dead into something new, in order to make objects with it.

First, we collect what is considered to be the ultimate waste that can only be land filled. At Everplast, we believe that we can turn it into something useful for the community. Beyond the waste, we see it as a source of material.

Naturally, there is nothing obvious about this initiative for which no processes exist, and for which almost everything has not yet been invented. But that is precisely what drives us: to face a challenge, an unknown land and find a way.

Why did you choose the name “Everplast”?

Just as a tattoo tells the part of a person’s story, we wanted a name that would speak about us. It also had to be understandable throughout the European market. Although it may not be obvious at first glance, Everplast is actually made up of 5 words. The main idea is that we give plastic a new life so that it lasts a long time as a material. The most obvious ones are of course “ever” and “plast ”. But eveRPlast also starts with the word “eve”, which refers to the original virgin material we are trying to substitute. Then there are the capital letters RP for Recycled Plastics and the “last” since we are actually trying to make this recycled plastic material that we want to substitute for virgin material last. eveRPlast!

What about your career timeline?

I am Alsatian by heart and by birth. I spent a little more than twenty years working in a raw materials trading business, all over the world. Now we are a hundred miles away from stock market speculation, and we serve as a link between producers and manufacturers.

This made me realize how lucky we are to live in Europe. It also made me want to produce in France. At Everplast, we are lucky enough to participate in the protection of our environment. This way, we can add meaning to our lives by being a bit inventive and simply doing our job. I love that!

What is the most important value for you?

There are many, and each of us has our own. I would say intellectual honesty, because that’s what allows us to move forward. One must be able to recognize one’s mistakes and not lie to oneself. It’s easier to blame others than to admit that we were wrong, but assuming allows us to bounce back.

What is your greatest success? What are you particularly proud of?

I’m obviously very proud of my children, but they owe it to themselves, and that’s probably not the point of your question… Without trying to avoid it, I don’t think I’ve achieved anything big enough to be really proud of it. However, eveRPlast is very close to my heart. Every tonne we recycle saves the planet tonnes of CO2. The success of this company will make me particularly proud.

Do you have any passions in your life?

Several… I have a particular fondness for performance and extreme sports. To approach the limits, while managing the risk and keeping a safety cushion. Scuba diving may seem like a harmless pastime, but at 40m below the surface, every detail matters! The risk exists and you have to keep it in mind at all times.

It’s a bit like paragliding. When you set off on a long-distance flight, it’s a constant battle to keep yourself in the air, to optimize the lift so as to lose as little time as possible, because it only exists as long as there is sunshine. Flying, almost silently, is an incredible sensation and the performance of modern paragliders allows for exceptional flights, but here again one must know how to stand back and maintain a sufficient safety margin to be able to react in case the glider retracts.
